The importance of fund raising

After our daughter Tori died of a tumour in December 2006, we like so many others had to deal with trying to pick ourselves up again. Our Christian beliefs took a real knock and now almost 2 years after Tori's diagnosis, we have yet to attend a church service and we were reasonably regular attenders before!

We turned our attention to fundraising, in the knowledge that whilst we could not bring Tori back, we could at least try and help others who find themselves in a similar position to us. We also found to our surprise, that many of ours and Tori's friends also wanted to do something to feel like they had contributed to help the suffering of others. So we set about fundraising.

Not only has the Tucker and Martin families raised in excess of £16,000 for Hammerout (a further £12,000 was raised for CLIC) we have had much fun in the organising of all sorts of events from a live concert with bagpipes and brass bands to soposnored walks/swims, even collecting buckets at the exit of Salisbury races last October.

If you feel inclined, you can attend the 2nd Tori Party fun day on June 14th in Aller Recreation Field, commencing at 5.00 pm. There will be entertainers for the children including the famous Herbie and the Tree Heads!!

We always give three cheers for Tori at any event we host. Fundraising has certainly helped us.

Regards
Gerard Tucker
